Tempax is a borosilicate glass similar to Pyrex. The float process used in manufacturing gives it a more flawless texture and appearance than Pyrex. Usually it is used in wood stoves and small heaters in small strips. It's thermal shock rating of 580 degrees F and crystal clear appearance makes it suitable for high temperature light fixtures where the added safety of tempered glass is not necessary or required. Due to it's low mechanical strength, it is not recommended for use in large pieces.

When broken - breaks in straight lines like window glass
