Pyroceram is not really a glass as such. It is a transparent ceramic also known
as Robax. Pyroceram has entirely different characteristics from
tempered glass. Pyroceram has a high thermal shock rating of 1380 degrees and is
normally used in high heat applications such as wood stoves or inserts. Wood
stoves and fireplace inserts do not generate enough heat to exceed the thermal
rating. Breakage usually occurs as a result of impact or retaining hardware
tightened too tight.
When broken - breaks in straight lines like window glass. |
